Geo Foam

One of the most versatile lightweight materials available. Geofoam maximizes the efficiency of the installation on site. Geofoam arrives on the spot, ready to be placed.

“EPS Geofoam is used in geotechnical applications such as lightweight fill for construction on soft ground, for slope stabilization, and retaining wall or abutment back-fill; as well as for roadway and runway sub-grade insulation and foundation insulation.”

Geofoam provides stability to unstable soil conditions. Its lightweight characteristics make it a great solution for lightening the load of concrete in bridges, decks, green roofs, etc.

Geofoam is a lightweight filling material that meets ASTM D6817

Within Geofoam

The two main features that make EPS geofoam so attractive in design and construction are the low density for stress and deformation-related building problems and the thermal insulation properties that help prevent swelling issues.

The density of EPS geothermal foam represents only about 1 to 2% of the mass of the soil and the rock, making EPS Geofoam a top quality, ultra-light-filled material that significantly reduces the stress on the sub grades. The lighter load reduces sedimentation and increases the stability against the failure of rollers and slopes.

Because it contains about 98 to 99% air per volume, geofoam is a very effective thermal insulator. EPS geofoam can be produced at higher densities to obtain the highest R values that are preferred for isolation and to achieve lower distortion. EPS geothermal foam is used in roads and railways, under refrigerated storage buildings, sports complexes and storage tanks to prevent frost and soil rise, and in segments of underground structures to reduce the seasonal heating and cooling demand.

We are one of the best producers of geofoam / expanded polystyrene in New York. We specialize in submissions, technical solutions, work in the public and private sectors. Our product is economical and generally does not require the usual setup or preload required in construction applications. Geofoam is environmentally friendly, does not contain HCFCs or formaldehyde and is 100% recyclable. Geofoam is resistant to decomposition and extreme weather conditions with remarkable stability and long service life. New York PolySteel exceeds the requirements of ASTM D6817, the standard specification for Geofoam hard cellular polystyrene, and is regularly tested to ensure the quality of the product for centuries!
